We went grocery shopping yesterday morning, and decided to do part of it at the Whole Foods store. We had decided to start buying healthier foods, and to try to make our meat selections from humane sources.
We walked around like visitors from a foreign country.
We didn't recognize any of the products. They don't carry anything we normally buy (no Pepsi or Coke products, no Lays potato chips.
I will say that everything was absolutely beautiful.
The most inexpensive whole chicken was selling for about 12 bucks. The birds in our usual price range were the size of my fist, and I wasn't sure if they were chickens or maybe sparrows.
We were the only overweight people. We couldn't have gotten any more looks if we had walked in there wearing huge bright sombreros and clown faces. They were nice enough, but it was pretty obvious we had never been there before.
A 12-inch spinach quiche would have put us back about 13 bucks.
Two rib eye steaks -- about 30 bucks (and we didn't see any labeling about humanely raised and slaughtered livestock).
After walking around wondering where the Pepsi, Coke and Kool Aid products were (they don't carry any), we spotted these beautiful glass containers of Voss mineral water. We bought two, and when we opened them, found we don't like sparkling mineral water.
Vindaloo Curry Paste I like putting 2-3 tablespoons of this in a pot of beef stew or chicken curry.
We also bought some sorbet, a bottle of organic salad dressing, and some environmentally friendly dish soap.
They don't carry any kind of balogne either, by the way.
