Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Over the past several weeks, they've been playing all of the Harry Potter movies on cable, and it was nice watching all of them before we went to see The Deathly Hallows Part 2 in the theater. As everyone has been writing, it is a fitting end to the movies. It's also the darkest of all the movies, and it's pretty much open season on high school aged witches and wizards. A shocking number of them are killed defending Hogwarts from Voldemort. No cute singing frogs in this movie. Spoilers after the split...
- Who would send their kids to Hogwarts? My first owl home would certainly mention the fact that we were goose-stepping around the place.
- Have we ever seen any students graduate from Hogwarts?
- That was an awesome scene where Professor McGonagle out-wands Snape.
- I guess the moral of the story is that there is Good (and Evil) in everyone.
- Any reason, any reason at all, to get Harry to take his shirt off. There isn't a spell to quickly dry wet clothes? Tumblor immedicus, or launderatus excelsius, or drippitus drynicus? Come on now...
- Being animal lovers, we were happy that the imprisoned dragon chained in the basement of Gringot's bank (the one trained to fear the sound of bells as they usually preceded "terrible pain") was rescued.
- We cheered when Belatrix got turned to dust -- by Mrs. Wealsey!
- The last scene where they were sending their kids off to Hogwarts was well done, but I wish it had included some of the other students.
- All in all, a great movie.
