- They found and killed Osama Bin Laden last night. The news hit around 830pm Phoenix time, and we watched as celebrations hit the streets in New York City, Washington DC and other cities. I knew they'd catch him one day, but lord there will be some hard looks at Pakistan now that it's blatantly obvious OBL lived right under their noses, some say for years.
- I agree that this action will bring about a change in US policy overseas, and I agree that the US shouldn't have to involve anti-US governments in retaliatory strikes against specific targets. I think I'm ok with pre-emptive strikes (like taking out North Korea's nuclear capabilities), but only if they came up with a weapon that could hit the US.
- I find it interesting how it was all about "killing Osama Bin Laden," as opposed to "attempting to capture him but he fount back and hell we had to just shoot him." Over the past several hours, it's slowly morphing into the latter, but in the beginning, I got the impression we were going to shoot him no matter what (and I'm cool with that).
- On the same day, Pope John Paul II was beatified. I really liked and admired him, and thought he brought a lot of peace and love into the world, and helped bring the Catholic Church into modern times.
- On the same day in 1945, it was announced that Adolph Hitler died, his body (and that of his wife) soaked in gasoline and burned in a ditch.
- On the same day that OBL was killed, the Vatican released a statement that it was ok with it, since OBL "had the grave responsibility of having spread division and hate among people, causing the deaths of an innumerable number of people and exploiting religion for these purposes" (emphasis mine). There's a pot and kettle joke in there somewhere.
