Christmas with the Kitties. LadyKitty is upset because we won't give her any ham.
I worked Christmas Eve, and it was unusually quiet. We still admitted half a dozen people, and they were pretty sick. But no one was "on the edge." I spent a lot of time working on a variety of projects.
I received a lot of gifts from my co-workers, which made me feel very guilty because I don't buy gifts for folks at work. This has nothing to do with my usual schtick about Christmas. I just don't like exchanging gifts with folks I work with. I tell them all the time that I don't want any gifts, and if they want to, they should limit it to just a few dollars. They ignored me.
My room mate and I made out like bandits again this year. We usually use Christmas as an excuse to buy things for ourselves, because we rarely do this during the year.
I finally broke down and asked for a replacement for my Palm VII that was stolen a couple of years ago(while at work at The Old Place). I had been doing fine without one, but I've been forgetting appointments now and again, and I've had to say "I have to call you when I get home to see if that will work" because I don't have my calendar or phone book with me. We can get Blackberries through work, but I really don't feel like lugging work in my ManPurse. Besides, I do enough work at work. I'm trying to be not-so-connected. So my room mate got me a Palm Z22 (no connectivity except through syncs) and I really like it. Today, I managed to get our weekly shopping list on it, and it also displays color pictures nicely.
I/We also got a new digital camera. Our old one was a 3 mega-pixel, and this new one is a 6 megapixel, and since I'm a guy, that makes me twice as big, so hey.
My sister, in our family gift exchange, got me a nice large saute pan. I have a much smaller one that can't go in the oven, and I can't cook, say, an entire cut-up chicken in it.
My Mom and Dad gave me a couple of nice shirts.
I got a whole slew of DVDs (I didn't know, until today, that the original Battlestar Galactica ran only for one season).
I got a plug in doo-dad so I can charge my iPod in a regular AC outlet.
A couple of books about Star Trek and Star Wars.
Just so much stuff!
For Christmas Dinner, we got a spiral-cut Ham, and had mashed potatoes and sauteed green beans (using the new saute pan). We were so stuffed we never got to the pie, and I found out after the meal that I forgot to serve the dinner rolls.
We watched one of Roomie's gifts, Superman Returns. To be honest, it was a tad slow, with entirely too much character development considering he's wearing blue tights and a red speedo. We stopped it in the middle, but we'll finish watching it eventually. Roomie says it's setting up for the sequel, which I am hoping will be something like, Superman Picks it Up a Bit. I also found the whole plot line of Superman getting all jealous because Lois left him for Cyclops just totally ridiculous.
But my favorite part of the day was just spending the day with my room mate. We hardly do that anymore.
I am back to work tomorrow.
I pulled Christmas Day. We had a few of the usual trying-to-put-it-off-until-after-Christmas problems, like CHF and missed dialysis days, but few "dumps."
Later in the week I did care for a very sweet 99-year-old who really had no other problems aside from advanced age, but he was probably the only respite-care admit we had all week.
I guess we should be expecting them tomorrow.... before the big game.
