I see on CNN Headline News that, for the first time in decades, we've had a summer with zero child drownings. [I saw it on CNN-HL but here's an article from MSNBC.] They are crediting this dramatic change to local laws requiring fences around all swimming pools in Maricopa County. Thank God. For every summer since we moved here, there have been half a dozen or so child drownings, with all sorts of terrible stories, video clips of pretty upper-middle-class homes surrounded by yellow crime scene tape. Almost all of the stories were of loving parents that turned there heads for just a few minutes. I just hope we don't make up for this summer with the next.
While I was watching CNN-HL, I was eating dinner -- a baked chicken breast and a handful of bagged prewashed salad.
