I was at work one night, and was mentioning my worsening problem with dry facial skin. The girls at work got a kick out of the fact that I use Oil of Olay moisturizer.
One of the nurses tells me, "You should try washing your face with Ponds Cold Cream."
Sounded like a good idea, and the stuff is a lot cheaper than other facial cleansers. So I buy a jar of it, and when I got home, I threw the jar into my gym bag, since most of my showers happen at the gym.
The next morning, I am standing at the sinks at LA Fitness. To my left is Lou Ferrigno. To my right is Dolphin Boy. I take a gob of that stuff (oh, I'd say about a tablespoon or so) and start smearing that stuff all over my face. When I try to wash it off, it WILL NOT WASH OFF. The water just pushes that stuff all over my face and my hands. It acted a lot like Vaseline petroleum jelly, and water just would not cut through it. Penguins, otters, seals and sea gulls wash up dead on beaches all over the world covered in this same stuff.
My face is now PORCELAIN WHITE and I now take on the appearance of a Geisha Girl celebrating the Chinese New Year. And I cannot get that stuff off.
I finally ended up having to take paper towels and just wipe it off.
Admittedly, my face was as soft as a newborn baby's ass, even if I was a bit of a spectacle.
Lucky you as there were no cute guys hanging around or you might end up pretty embarrass about it. I tried pond’s cold cream but I do not use it outside, during gym or swimming as it is creamy and I do not want to look like what you have just mentioned earlier. I like ponds because it is very effective as an anti aging face creams that girls should have in her vanity table. If you have combination skin, like me, refrain or at least do it once or twice in your t-zone area or the part of your face that is oilier than the other part.

Yeah! Ponds Cold Cream was really effective, I really can't sleep at night without washing with face by ponds cold cream. I only saw this product when I tried some online shopping and since then, I really loved it.

On the back of the Ponds Cold Cream, the directions clearly say to wipe off with a tissue or a warm wash cloth instead of trying to wash it off like a conventional face wash.
It also helps to wipe it all off with a tissue/warm washcloth and then finish by rinsing your face with warm water and then with cold water.

Drunk Bunny: One of these days, i will put Nair where it shouldn't go, and that will be the end of me :-)
Catherine: We don't have Longs here in Phoenix AZ, but I do drive by a store called Ultra, the sign in front says it's a cosmetic supply store, so I might have to go in there... I've found that the Ponds thing is great maybe every other or every third day, and every day makes me feel like an oil slick :-)

Eric -- For Nivea's line of men's products, try Long's, that's who carries them in California. My local grocery store carries the women's products, but not the men's. It's not a high-end, high-priced line that you only find at a Department store. (In fact, I doubt that any carry them.) Just mid-range in cost, comparable to Oil of Olay.
I have to laugh, as I'm still picturing you with face full of cream, kinda like the Mrs. Doubtfire scene . . . or even an I Love Lucy. Thanks for the giggle and a great blog. I'm not in the healtcare biz, but can readily relate to your struggles with bad management.

Hee! I could just picture you in the gym struggling with grandma's facial care product. ;)

Hey, new friends! that's cool!
Catherine: It must be where I am doing my cosmetic shopping, which is in the 24-hour Fry's Grocerty Store right next door. I went looking for the Nivea products you mentioned and didn't see any men's products. I guess I might have to face the light of day and go to an actual cosmetics store...
Jo: Until I get the hang of it, I've placed an immediate halt of the use of any kind of cold cream while at the gym. Might be something I do in the dark quiet privacy of my own bathroom. And yes, it does indeed work better with a warm wet washcloth! My nurse was right, though, cold cream makes my skin incredibly soft and smooth...

*snork* *snork* *snork*
A tip I learned in years past, when I still did theater:
Take a small amount of Pond's (less than your tablespoon). Smear it all over your face. Then take a washcloth wetted with hot water and wrung out and use that to wipe the cold cream off. Rinse with warm water after that.
Voila! No geisha-girl complexion, no dead seagulls, and baby-ass-soft skin!

You might try facial products by Nivea. Their products are light and not greasy. My ex-husband likes their line for men: cleanser, moisturizer, shaving cream, etc. I have to admit, he doesn't use them on his face, as he has a full beard. However, he does shave his head daily and is very happy with the results he gets from the products.
