I've been working on neating up my home office. It's one of those things that I try to do once a month, but it's more likely to happen once a quarter. Again, the cats wonder if we're moving and trying to get most of our deposit back.
I have an entire file box (those cardboard boxes you can get from the office supply store to hold 8x11 manila folders) full of old files that I would like to get shredded. It's all stuff like all of my phone bills for the past several years, bank statements, water bills, etc. that I just don't want to drop off at our neighborhood dumpster. I do have a shredder, but I just don't think it would make it through about five reams of paper at one sitting.
There isn't much out there for public shredding. I was hoping for a place where I can drive up with my two boxes, and either hand the whole pile over to some bonded worker, or would get some time in front of an industrial shredder and do it by myself (hopefully something like a tree shredder). But there are none. There are places where companies can have a huge truck parked in front of their business and they unload several large bins to shred. Or they can come by with a dump truck and pick it up if you don't need to stand there and watch it being pulped. But for the "casual shredder", there doesn't seem to be anything. Damn.
My office is now livable again. I'm still obviously a pile-person, but at least I've finally thrown out all those little balls of wadded toilet tissue from my recent cold.
